Ebrima Bojang: A Victim of a Palm Tree Fall Supported by SVAF

Date of Incident: 16 July 2024

On 16 July 2024, Mr. Ebrima Bojang suffered a serious accident after falling from a palm tree while harvesting palm fruits. What began as a normal day of work quickly turned into a life-threatening situation that left him with severe injuries and in urgent need of medical attention.

Palm fruit harvesting is a common livelihood activity in many rural communities across The Gambia. However, it is often carried out without proper safety equipment or protective measures. In Ebrima’s case, the fall resulted in injuries that placed both his health and financial stability at risk.

Upon learning of the incident, the Safety & Victims Advocacy Foundation (SVAF) with mobilize the little support it could lay hands on to support as a show of solidarity to the victim.

SVAF’s mission is to stand with victims of accidents and disasters particularly those who lack the financial means or social support to recover fully. Ebrima’s case reflects the everyday dangers faced by individuals engaged in informal and high-risk work activities.

This incident highlights an important issue: many livelihood activities in our communities are carried out without adequate safety awareness or protective measures. Preventable accidents continue to cause injuries, disabilities, and economic hardship for families.

SVAF remains committed not only to supporting victims after incidents occur, but also to promoting safety awareness and preventive education to reduce such tragedies.

Recovery from serious injury is often long and costly. We call on compassionate individuals, organisations, and partners to continue supporting victims like Ebrima Bojang.

Your contribution whether financial, material, or advocacy-based helps restore hope and dignity to those affected by accidents.
