Global Road Traffic Accidents

Global Road Traffic Accidents
Road traffic crashes are one of the largest preventable causes of injury and death worldwide:

Key Global Statistics
Around 1.19 million people die each year due to road traffic crashes. Between 20 million and 50 million people suffer non-fatal injuries, many leading to long-term disability.

Road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years.

Low- and middle-income countries account for 92 % of road traffic fatalities, even though they have about 60 % of the world’s vehicles.

Efforts have slightly reduced annual deaths, but global road traffic injuries remain high — and urgent action is needed to meet the UN goal of halving deaths by 2030.

Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists make up over half of deaths globally.
